Namhae-gun Postpones Traffic Control Period on Namhae Bridge to October
Traffic Control Implemented in Line with Expansion Joint Replacement Construction
The traffic control period for Namhae Bridge, originally scheduled to last about four months from August 16 to December 15, has been postponed to October.
Namhae-gun, Gyeongnam Province, had initially planned to control vehicle traffic on Namhae Bridge until December 15 to simultaneously carry out expansion joint replacement work to reinforce the safety of the bridge, which has been open for over 50 years, and a project to develop it as a tourist resource.
Since the expansion joint replacement work and the tourist resource development project would be conducted during different periods, it was judged that dividing the control period multiple times would increase traffic inconvenience. Therefore, the control plan was established to minimize inconvenience.
However, during consultations with related departments, transportation companies, and residents, various methods such as adjusting bus routes and operating shuttle vehicles were discussed, leading to a change in the plan.
Namhae-gun has decided to control traffic on Namhae Bridge only during the period required for the expansion joint replacement and plans to shorten this period.
To minimize inconvenience for users, shuttle vehicles will be operated, and the control period will be changed to about two months starting from October.
A Namhae-gun official said, “We sincerely apologize for causing confusion among residents regarding the traffic control. This project is essential to strengthen the safety of Namhae Bridge, and traffic control is unavoidable. We ask for the understanding and cooperation of the residents.” He added, “To minimize residents’ inconvenience, we will finalize and promote the traffic control details separately based on the matters agreed upon so far.”
