They unanimously said, “Meeting people and participating in various activities is a great joy and happiness.”
They also cited monitoring convenience facilities for people with disabilities at subway stations and Yangdong Market, as well as disability awareness improvement campaigns, as activities that gave them a sense of fulfillment.
In addition, they expressed a desire to participate in social contribution activities with professional skills such as barista work, nail art, and baking.
Families of people with disabilities who attended the report meeting said, “Until now, people with severe disabilities had nowhere to go except school, which was painful and heartbreaking for families. We are grateful to Seo-gu for breaking prejudices and providing valuable jobs for people with disabilities,” and added, “We hope that more people with disabilities will have opportunities to personally experience the value of labor both materially and mentally.”
In the second half of this year, Seo-gu plans to focus on on-site support by assigning dedicated support personnel so that workers with disabilities can actively participate in awareness improvement promotion activities for creating a barrier-free city, sharing activities such as delivering kimchi for kimjang, and housing environment improvement projects for vulnerable groups.
Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “A barrier-free city means creating an environment where all people live together without inconvenience, starting from securing safe mobility rights for people with disabilities,” and added, “We will do our best so that each person’s efforts can lead to meaningful changes, eliminate everyday inequalities, and ultimately become the driving force toward a barrier-free city.”
