A Resting Place in the City Embracing All Generations from Children to Seniors
Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) has transformed the aging Jamsil Neighborhood Park into a space where everyone from children to seniors can gather, enjoy, and relax together.
Jamsil Neighborhood Park (230 Jamsil-dong) is a small-scale park of 6,513㎡ adjacent to the Jamsilbon-dong Community Service Center. Although it is a popular resting place for residents, 16 years have passed since its last renovation, and most facilities such as benches and exercise equipment have become worn out. Due to the lack of leisure spaces for residents, there have been ongoing demands for facility improvements.
In response, the district secured 3.8 billion KRW in special grants while constructing a new complex community center in 2022, transforming the park into a forest-like resting place accessible to all residents.
The park now features a ▲multipurpose sports ground ▲senior exercise facilities ▲outdoor playground ▲rest areas ▲a 250-meter walking trail and green spaces. Additionally, old park facilities like benches were replaced to ensure residents' safety, and green trees and various flowers were planted throughout to create a nature-friendly environment.
An indoor playground for children will also be established next to the park in the first half of next year.
On the 16th, the district held a completion ceremony for Jamsil Neighborhood Park along with a groundbreaking ceremony for the indoor playground, officially starting construction.
The indoor playground will be created by remodeling the old community center building. To this end, the district conducted a detailed safety inspection while constructing the Jamsilbon-dong complex community center and carried out on-site inspections and consultations with experts in safety, play, and architecture according to Seoul-style kids caf? guidelines.
The first and second floors above ground will be used as the indoor playground, and the basement first floor will be utilized as a toy library.
Above all, the plan is to allow children to use the space safely without restrictions from external environmental factors such as seasons or weather. The indoor space will be redesigned with an open concept so that children can freely move between indoors and outdoors while viewing the sky, grass, forest, and outdoor playground.
