Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) will intensively crack down on mixed waste disposal and illegal dumping, focusing on the areas near Hongdae where crowds gather, restaurant-dense areas, and residential alleyways until October 13.
Last month, the district conducted a quality inspection of 20 tons of volume-based waste brought to the Mapo Resource Recovery Facility, revealing a serious problem of mixed disposal with food waste and recyclables intertwined.
Also, the amount of waste discharged per household in Seogyo, Hapjeong, and Sangam-dong, where many businesses are located, was significantly higher than the average discharge amount (293.9kg), indicating the need for inspection of waste discharged from businesses in those areas.
Accordingly, the district plans to deploy a total of about 90 available personnel, including environmental officers, cleaning staff from neighborhood community centers, and environmental security officers, centered on the Resource Circulation Division, to intensively crack down on points expected to have a high incidence of mixed disposal and illegal dumping, such as restaurant areas and residential alleyways.
The main crackdown items include ▲non-use of volume-based waste bags ▲mixed waste disposal ▲illegal cigarette butt dumping ▲violation of designated time and place for waste disposal.
The district has formed a daytime crackdown team of 55 members who work in shifts by area, while at night, four members of the district office crackdown team patrol and crack down on high-complaint areas and inspect CCTV for illegal dumping surveillance.
Additionally, every Tuesday and Thursday, 20 personnel including staff from the Resource Circulation Division will conduct guidance and crackdown on separated waste disposal targeting restaurants and commercial areas from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., and for large-scale waste discharge over 300kg, they will guide businesses to treat it as business waste.
Furthermore, in habitual complaint areas such as Hongdae, 10 waste separation promotion personnel will provide guidance and publicity on waste disposal methods and restrictions on single-use items.
A district official emphasized, “To reduce household waste and create clean streets, mature resident awareness and cooperation that ‘I am responsible for separating waste at my home and my store’ are essential.”
For clear guidance, the district completed pre-education for crackdown team members on the 11th, plans to conduct publicity and guidance until September 13, and will strictly impose fines starting October 13.
