Gangseo-gu, What Are the Key Projects of the Resident Participation Budget?
Prioritization of 26 projects proposed by residents, including Our Neighborhood Community Health Center and Gangseo-gu Open Concert
Combined resident and committee votes will be reflected in next year’s budget within a range of 2.25 billion KRW
Voting available until the 21st via Seoul EmVoting website or application
Residents decide on projects they proposed to make their community a better place through voting.
The district announced that it will conduct the “Resident Participatory Budget Online Voting” for the 2024 budget formulation until the 21st.
The resident participatory budget system allows residents to directly propose projects needed in their area and participate in the review and selection process, ensuring resident involvement in budget formulation and enhancing transparency and democracy in budget management.
The district holds an annual online voting for resident participatory budgeting to solve local issues together with residents and guarantee their participation in the budget process.
Earlier, the district received a total of 114 project proposals during the two-month resident participatory budget project solicitation held since April.
This online voting targets 26 projects that passed the relevant department review and the Resident Participatory Budget Committee subcommittee deliberations from the submitted proposals, allowing each voter to select up to five projects.
Key projects include ▲Our Neighborhood Community Health Center ▲Gangseo-gu Open Concert ▲Comfortable Gangseo-gu Resident Center even on rainy days ▲Bongjesan Neighborhood Park as a Smart Digital Park, all closely related to residents’ daily lives.
Voting is open to all Gangseo-gu residents regardless of age. Residents can participate by accessing the Seoul EmVoting website or application, searching for “Gangseo-gu Resident Participatory Budget,” and selecting five projects to vote for by the 21st.
The district plans to select final projects within a budget limit of 2.25 billion KRW by combining resident votes (60%) and Resident Participatory Budget Committee general assembly votes (40%), and reflect them in next year’s budget.
Park Dae-woo, Acting Mayor of Gangseo-gu, said, “Resident participatory budgeting, where residents directly propose and select projects necessary for local development, is one of the most representative examples of grassroots democracy,” and added, “We hope residents actively participate in the online voting so that projects essential to them can be included in next year’s budget.”
