Gyeongnam Governor Park Wan-su: "We Can Protect Residents as Much as We Strive"
Instructions to Improve Disaster Response System Including Typhoon Preparedness
Gyeongnam Governor Park Wan-su presided over the heads of departments and bureaus meeting on the 14th and instructed improvements to the disaster response system.
Governor Park said, "The reason there was no significant damage from Typhoon Khanun is because the provincial and city/county officials thoroughly prepared and made efforts in advance," adding, "Gyeongnam is leading in disaster response through the establishment of cooperation systems among disaster situations, newly established organizations, local governments, police, and fire departments, as well as the establishment of a province-wide power CCTV monitoring system, so further improvements are needed going forward."
He emphasized, "Parts that were insufficient in typhoon preparedness must be reflected and changed in the manual (action guidelines). The more the administration makes efforts, the more it can protect the lives and property of the residents."
He also cited cases such as soil leakage at a construction site in Changwon and a manhole cover piercing the underside of a bus during this typhoon, urging to strengthen related inspections.

Governor Park said, "Group tours by Chinese tourists will resume for the first time in six years," and ordered the expansion of Chinese routes at Gimhae Airport, as well as the solid preparation of cultural and artistic content and tourism products, and efforts to attract tourists to events such as the Sancheong World Traditional Medicine and Anti-Aging Expo.
He continued, "The Battle of Hansan was a brilliant naval battle in history where Admiral Yi Sun-sin achieved a great victory under difficult conditions with the spirit of 'fight to the death or live with honor,'" and said, "Please devote all efforts to maintaining Jeoseungdang and promoting the pilgrimage route of war sites that can highlight Gyeongnam anew in Korea by inheriting Admiral Chungmugong's spirit."
Regarding festivals and events such as the upcoming Sancheong World Traditional Medicine and Anti-Aging Expo in September and the 105th National Sports Festival next year, he urged, "Thorough on-site management must be ensured to prevent problems like those that occurred at the Saemangeum Jamboree."
He also said, "Gyeongnam must strive to discover and establish a foundation for target industries in advanced fields such as semiconductors, which are relatively weak," adding, "Building an industrial base for the first time is a very difficult process, but through this, government investment can be attracted and related companies and research institutes can be brought in."
