Gyeonggi Regional Environmental Office Conducts Special Inspection of Odor Complaint Sites in Dongducheon Area
Gyeonggi Province is stepping up crackdowns on businesses emitting environmental pollutants in the Dongducheon area, where odor complaints have recently occurred.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Environmental Management announced that starting from the 14th of this month, it will conduct special guidance inspections on pollutant-emitting businesses in industrial complexes and other areas in Dongducheon using drones and other means.
This special guidance inspection is a follow-up measure in response to ongoing odor complaints accompanied by white smoke from industrial complexes. The inspection targets about 10 pollutant-emitting businesses within the Dongducheon industrial complexes and surrounding areas.
The Provincial Office of Environmental Management plans to enhance efficiency by forming inspection teams composed of Gyeonggi Province, Dongducheon City, and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs) for the special inspections.
The main inspection items include ▲whether emission facilities are operating without permits (unreported) ▲proper installation and normal operation of emission and prevention facilities ▲compliance with self-monitoring of air quality ▲leakage of pollutants due to facility aging, among others.
The crackdown will involve detailed investigations of workplaces by deploying on-site measurement and analysis monitoring teams using advanced equipment such as drones, analyzing smoke and other emissions from the businesses.
The Provincial Office of Environmental Management plans to file criminal charges and administrative actions against companies found violating regulations based on inspection results and publicly disclose violations online.
Additionally, it will provide consulting on facility improvements and operational methods regarding overall environmental matters to ensure long-term improvement of the environment in the Dongducheon area.
