Ahn Cheol-soo: "The Responsibility for the Jamboree Incident Lies with the Government of the Republic of Korea"

"Minister Should Be Dismissed After Determining Responsibility"
Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo of the People Power Party stated that "the responsibility lies with the Republic of Korea" regarding the disruption at the Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree.
In an interview with KBS Radio's 'Choi Kyung-young's Strong Current Affairs' on the 9th, Rep. Ahn said, "The venue is Saemangeum, Jeonbuk, but it was hosted by the government of the Republic of Korea," adding, "Just because the Olympics were held in Seoul does not mean Seoul is responsible. Isn't the responsibility with the Republic of Korea? It's the same here."
Rep. Ahn said, "If the situation is well managed and the participants return to their countries without any harm, it is internationally necessary for a top government official to apologize and express regret," and added, "there should be a thorough audit and clear determination of responsibility, and the minister with the greatest responsibility should be dismissed."
He continued, "What worries me is that there could be international criticism or lawsuits afterward, so we really need to respond well," emphasizing the point.
Regarding Rep. Seong Il-jong of the same party insisting that BTS should perform at the Jamboree K-pop concert on the 11th to elevate national prestige, Rep. Ahn opposed, saying, "The 11th is the day after tomorrow, so preparing a large-scale concert in two days is unrealistic, and there are also concerns about accidents. A typhoon might come," he said.

Instead, he added, "The safety of the Jamboree participants should be the top priority, and rather than K-pop stars, cultural or student exchange events where the participants themselves can be the main focus should be held. If possible, instead of gathering everyone in one place, various programs should be created and dispersed."
