KT&G, Leaf Tobacco Harvest Volunteer Activity..."17 Years of Coexistence with Farmers"
Volunteer Work for Leaf Tobacco Harvest in Unsan-myeon, Seosan-si, Chungnam
KT&G announced on the 9th that it conducted volunteer work for leaf tobacco harvesting on the 4th in Unsan-myeon, Seosan-si, Chungnam to support leaf tobacco farms.
Leaf tobacco farming is harvested during the midsummer months of July and August, and mechanization is difficult, so most of the work is done manually, resulting in high labor intensity. Leaf tobacco farmers are facing difficulties securing labor due to the continuous decline and aging of the rural population.
Since 2007, KT&G has been visiting leaf tobacco farms annually and has continued volunteer activities for 17 years. Following volunteer work for transplanting leaf tobacco seedlings in spring, they also assist with leaf tobacco harvesting, fostering coexistence with farmers throughout the year.
KT&G has also been steadily carrying out support projects to improve the welfare of domestic leaf tobacco farms. In June, it provided approximately 520 million KRW in support funds for health checkup costs for leaf tobacco cultivators, children's tuition fees, and support for fuel reduction devices for Baepungnyeol. Since 2013, the cumulative support amount has reached approximately 3.85 billion KRW, benefiting a total of 13,050 cultivators.
