Gangseo-gu, Seoul is taking the lead in alleviating inconveniences for electric vehicle drivers by utilizing smart technology.
The district announced that it will additionally install the ‘Smart Management System for Electric Vehicle Charging Zones’ to effectively manage electric vehicle charging areas.
The ‘Smart Management System for Electric Vehicle Charging Zones’ was first introduced in 2022 to eliminate inconveniences caused by obstructive behavior in charging zones and to ease concerns about accidents during charging.
Since 2022, the district has installed and operated a total of 14 smart management systems at the district office, police stations, and public parking lots through pilot projects and Seoul city public contests.
The newly installed locations include three public parking lots: Byeotgol Park Public Parking Lot, Hwanggeumnae Park-gil Public Parking Lot, and Hwagok 4-1 Public Parking Lot, where a total of five smart management systems will be deployed.
IoT sensors are installed in these zones to automatically recognize the license plates of incoming vehicles and provide voice warnings if the vehicle is not registered as an electric vehicle, helping to facilitate the prompt movement of vehicles.
Additionally, CCTV monitors the charging facilities in real time, enabling quick responses to incidents such as fires, and allows verification of footage related to illegally parked vehicles, which can be used as grounds for issuing fines.
The district expects that the smart management system will enhance convenience for electric vehicle drivers and contribute to fostering a proper parking culture.
