Busan Math Culture Center Operates Summer Vacation Experiential Math Camp
The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education's Creative Convergence Education Center and Busan Mathematics Culture Center are operating a 'Summer Vacation Experiential Math Camp' for elementary, middle, and high school students during the summer break.
This camp aims to awaken students to the value of mathematics, a key tool in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, and to develop their ability to solve problems through mathematical thinking.
The Busan Mathematics Culture Center divides participants into middle and high school students and elementary students, conducting the camp at the center. Students engage in activities focused on discussion, inquiry, and project-based classes under the theme "Find the Mathematics that Moves the World!"
The camp, held over two days on the 9th and 10th, is designed for 100 students, including 60 middle school first and second graders and 40 high school first and second graders.
Middle school students are divided into three classes of 20 students each and learn about convergence mathematics using LEGO and coding based on the themes of autonomous driving and cryptography, which are core technologies of artificial intelligence, and participate in a mission tour of the Mathematics Culture Center.
High school students are divided into two classes of 20 students each and take a focused geometry exploration project class (9 sessions) covering topics such as center of mass, spherical geometry, regular polyhedra, and four-dimensional shapes.
The camp on the 23rd and 24th is held for 100 fifth and sixth graders from elementary school. They are divided into five classes of 20 students each and participate in inquiry activities and mission tours on three topics related to daily life.
