Kim Mihye, Hanyang University Emeritus Professor, Receives Norwegian Royal Order of Merit Medal
Contribution to Introducing Playwright Henrik Ibsen in Korea
Kim Mihye, Honorary Professor of Theater and Film at Hanyang University, received a Medal of Merit and a decoration from the Norwegian Royal Family. The Embassy of Norway in Korea held the award ceremony on the 3rd at the Norwegian Ambassador's Residence in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul. She was highly praised for her contributions to introducing Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen to Korea. Professor Kim, who earned her Ph.D. in Theater Studies from the University of Vienna in Austria, completed and published a full translation of Ibsen's complete plays (23 works) last year. She also authored related books such as Henrik Ibsen: The Cornerstone of Modern Theater.

The Norwegian Royal Medal of Merit has been awarded since 1985 to overseas residents who have made outstanding contributions to Norway and humanity. Professor Kim received the Commander medal, the third highest among five ranks. Anne Kari Hansen Ovind, the Norwegian Ambassador to Korea, who presented the medal on behalf of King Harald V of Norway, said, "Through dedication, skill, and passion, she has elevated the appreciation of Ibsen and Norwegian literature as a whole," adding, "She will contribute to deepening the cultural ties between Norway and Korea."
