In the early morning hours, a man in his 20s wandering around a residential area in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, carrying a weapon was apprehended by the police. The man was released after receiving a fine on the grounds that he did not attack anyone nearby.
According to the Gimpo Police Station in Gyeonggi on the 3rd, a report was received by 112 at around 4:30 a.m. on the 1st, stating that "a man was carrying a weapon on a street in Masan-dong, Gimpo-si."

View original imageThe police who responded to the report arrested a man in his 20s, identified as Mr. A, on the same day at around 6:10 a.m. on a street in Masan-dong. At the time of arrest, Mr. A had left the weapon at home. The weapon he was carrying was reported to be 20 cm in length.
According to the police investigation, there was no evidence that Mr. A attacked or threatened anyone with the weapon.
In the police investigation, Mr. A stated, "Out of curiosity, I took my father's fishing knife," and "I had no intention of harming anyone."
However, nearby residents reportedly expressed anxiety due to recent stabbing incidents in Sillim-dong, Seoul. One resident said in an interview with YTN, "I had a hard time for a while after watching the video of the Sillim Station incident," and added, "Hearing that someone like that was around my house makes me feel like crime is approaching my daily life, so I am very scared."
The police believe that Mr. A was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time. The police issued Mr. A a fine of 80,000 won for concealing and carrying a weapon and called his parents to take custody of him.
