DX Division Organizational Restructuring... Promotion of AI-Based Product Development
Samsung Electronics has established the Future Technology Office to discover technologies and products that do not yet exist in the world.
According to Samsung Electronics' coverage on the 1st, the Device Experience (DX, mobile and consumer electronics) division created the Future Technology Office on the same day. It operates directly under the DX division. The head of the office concurrently serves as Kim Kang-tae, Vice President and Head of the Technology Strategy Team at Samsung Research (SR).
The newly established Future Technology Office will serve as the control tower for the DX division to secure technologies and products that do not exist in the world. At a luncheon meeting with the executive team in October last year, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong emphasized, "Since our founding, the most important values have been talent and technology," adding, "We must recruit and nurture talent capable of changing the world regardless of gender or nationality. We must invest in technologies that do not yet exist."
Samsung Electronics will establish an Emerging Tech Team directly under SR and an Emerging Tech Group directly under major business units. These organizations plan to discover future new technologies, establish roadmaps, and develop new form factors (external designs) for each product. Within the DX division, the Visual Display (VD) Business Unit will operate a dedicated organization responsible for all stages of planning, development, and verification necessary to commercialize the 'Movable Project,' which combines projectors and robots. The Home Appliance Business Unit will establish an 'AI Strategy Part' to propose AI strategies and roadmaps for AI-empowered home appliances.

SR has established the 'Smart Home AI Lab' under the Next-Generation Home Appliance Research Team to promote advanced research and development related to AI-based home appliances and services. SR is the leading advanced research and development (R&D) organization within the DX division. Jeon Kyung-hoon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Samsung Electronics DX division, serves as the head of the SR research institute. Previously, the world-renowned AI scholar Seung Hyun-joon (Sebastian Seung) was the director.
