Ministry of the Interior and Safety Selects 5 'Life Safety Problem-Solving Ideas'
Final Decision Through Contest
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 1st that it has selected five final outstanding ideas through the ‘2023 Life Safety Problem-Solving Idea Contest’ to discover research and development tasks for preventing disasters and safety accidents in the daily lives of the public.
The ‘Life Safety Problem-Solving Idea Contest’ has been held annually since 2018. This year, from April 16 to May 19, submissions were accepted in five areas including traffic accidents and underground space flooding, resulting in a total of 181 ideas received.
The five selected outstanding ideas mainly include ▲development of a wireless sensor to detect pedestrians in the blind spots of large vehicles, ▲development of vehicle sensors to detect children, ▲electronic notification streetlights that alert accident/disaster risks, ▲development of a monitoring and alert system for declining driving ability of elderly drivers, ▲and development of sensors to notify underground flood water levels.
The five proposers of the final selected outstanding ideas will each receive the Minister of the Interior and Safety Award along with a prize of 400,000 won. The award ceremony will be held at the ‘2023 Korea Safety Industry Expo’ at KINTEX in Ilsan from the 13th to the 15th of next month (three days).

Ko Gwang-wan, Director of Disaster Cooperation Policy, said, “We thank those who showed interest in this contest and submitted ideas to prevent safety accidents in daily life,” and added, “The government will actively support developing life safety ideas proposed directly by the public into research and development projects and ultimately resolving factors that threaten safety in the daily lives of the people.”
