Yeosu City Adds 3 Villages to '100-Won Taxi Expansion' Service

The ‘100-won Taxi’ service aimed at alleviating transportation inconveniences for residents of vulnerable villages in the Yeosu area of Jeollanam-do will be expanded starting next month.

According to Yeosu City (Mayor Jeong Gi-myeong) on the 28th, the expansion areas for the ‘100-won Taxi’ include three locations: Samil-dong’s Janae-ri, Nae-dong, and Gogaetjae villages.

As a result, the number of areas served by the 100-won Taxi will increase from 16 to 19, and today (the 28th), a signing ceremony will be held at the Samil-dong Community Center with transportation operators and village operation committee chairpersons in attendance.

The ‘100-won Taxi’ is a transportation welfare system that allows residents in transportation-vulnerable areas, where the distance from the village hall to the bus stop is over 500 meters, to call a taxi and pay only 100 won to travel from the village hall to the address’s eup/myeon/dong (including branch offices) community center.

Passengers pay the taxi operator selected by the village operation committee with a 100-won Taxi card issued by the city and 100 won in cash to use the service.

The number of uses is allocated differentially from 30 to 300 times based on the population of each village, and the remaining taxi fare except for the 100 won is compensated to the transportation operators from the subsidy budget.

A city official stated, “The 100-won Taxi is a system that greatly contributes to increasing transportation convenience for the transportation disadvantaged and vulnerable areas,” adding, “We will work to improve any issues and operate the service more conveniently so that many more villages can benefit in the future.”

Meanwhile, the 100-won Taxi, which has received great support from residents of the operating villages, started in June 2016, and last year, 2,797 people benefited from it. Satisfaction surveys conducted annually show that over 97% of users are satisfied.
