Gokseong-gun, Development of Amnok Freshwater Crab and Euneo Street
Okok Amnok Area, Part of the Namdo Food Street Premium Project
Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced on the 26th that a 1.6km Apnok Chamge and Euneo Street has been created in the Apnok-ri area of Ogok-myeon as part of the Namdo Food Street Premium Project.
The Namdo Food Street project aims to specialize Namdo cuisine, which can have a significant ripple effect on the tourism industry, and to attract tourists by building tourism infrastructure.
This project selects areas where restaurants representing local cuisine are concentrated or where the creation of a food street can have a significant effect on revitalizing the local economy.
At Apnok Chamge and Euneo Street, guide signs and symbolic sculptures of Chamge (freshwater crabs) and Euneo (sweetfish) were installed to build food tourism infrastructure.
Additionally, a street park was created as a resting space where tourists can take a break while enjoying food and sightseeing.
The county invested 57 million KRW this year to carry out maintenance projects to revitalize Apnok Chamge and Euneo Street and plans to install additional guide signs.
They also plan to operate the "Namdo Food Street Visiting Month" in connection with local festivals to widely promote Gokseong-gun’s representative dishes and the Namdo Food Street to tourists.
Regular education on hygiene and friendly service is provided to restaurant operators and workers.
To ensure visitors continue to come to Apnok Chamge and Euneo Street, opinions are being gathered through meetings with merchants.
A Gokseong-gun official said, “We will promote Apnok Chamge and Euneo Street, reflecting local characteristics, to tourists, provide a variety of food options to broaden choices, and promote nearby tourist attractions to revitalize the local economy.”
