Jeju Coast Guard's Life Jacket Wrapping Advertisement on Dongbu Market Elevator Draws Attention
The Jeju Coast Guard announced on the 26th that since the 25th, as part of coastal accident prevention efforts, they have started wrapping advertisements on the elevator at Jeju Dongmun Market featuring illustrations promoting life jacket wearing and safety slogans.
Last year, among the 754 people rescued from coastal accidents nationwide, only 152 wore life jackets, accounting for just 20.2%.
Although everyone understands the importance of wearing life jackets, the wearing rate remains very low due to discomfort, complacency, and overconfidence in one's swimming ability. Therefore, proactive prevention activities and a shift in public awareness toward a marine safety culture are necessary.
Jeju Dongmun Market is an essential tourist course and attraction in Jeju. According to Jeju Province's 2022 sales trends, 51% of visitors last year were tourists, making it an excellent place to promote safety to both locals and tourists.
Recently, on the occasion of Coastal Safety Day, the Jeju Coast Guard visited Jeju Dongmun Market to conduct a campaign promoting life jacket wearing.
A Jeju Coast Guard official stated, "There needs to be a change in perception that wearing a life jacket is mandatory for personal safety, just like wearing a seatbelt," and added, "Please be sure to wear a life jacket when engaging in water activities."
