Active Promotion of Urban Development Projects Including Opening of Urban Planning Roads
Miryang City in Gyeongnam is accelerating projects for change and development aimed at becoming a sustainable city for the next 100 years. In particular, it is focusing on enhancing urban competitiveness by reorganizing the internal network for urban structure reform with the goal of creating a "safe city where people want to live."
To alleviate worsening traffic congestion caused by increasing urban population and the expansion of automobile ownership, the city is expanding transportation infrastructure such as urban planning roads and connecting bridges between downtown areas, aiming to promote balanced regional development and increase population inflow.

▶ Gyodong~Sammun-dong Connecting Road Construction Project
This is a campaign pledge of the 8th municipal administration, involving the construction of a 1.09 km urban planning road connecting Gyodong and Sammun-dong. With a total project cost of 67 billion KRW, construction is planned to start in 2024 and open in 2026. It is expected to alleviate habitual traffic congestion by dispersing traffic volume passing through major downtown areas.
▶ Sammun Embankment Road 4-Lane Expansion Project
Also a pledge of the 8th municipal administration, this project addresses worsening traffic congestion due to increased vehicle traffic in the large apartment complexes and commercial areas of Sammun-dong New Town. The project expands the existing 2-lane embankment road in Sammun-dong to 4 lanes, with a total budget of 9 billion KRW. Construction will begin in 2024 and open in 2026.
▶ Nano Convergence National Industrial Complex Connection Facility Project (2nd Namcheon Bridge)
The 2nd Namcheon Bridge is under construction to establish a connected transportation system between the Nano Convergence National Industrial Complex and the existing urban area, aiming to revitalize the local economy and alleviate traffic congestion. With a total project cost of 18 billion KRW, a 0.57 km bridge connecting Nae-i and Sammun-dong is being built. Construction started in April and is scheduled to open in 2025.
▶ Nano Bridge Connecting Urban Planning Road Construction Project
This project involves constructing a 0.63 km connecting road by building Nano Bridge linking Sammun-dong and Bubuk-myeon. The city invested a total of 14.9 billion KRW, opening the Bubuk-myeon connecting road in 2022 and plans to open the Sammun-dong connecting road within this year. Upon completion, the expansion of the main arterial road network will contribute to balanced regional development and economic revitalization.
▶ Miryang Rural Tourism and Recreation Complex Access Bridge Construction Project (Sangsang Bridge)
Opened in June, Sangsang Bridge is a 0.23 km access bridge to the Miryang Rural Tourism and Recreation Complex, constructed with a total budget of 15.6 billion KRW. It expands bridge facilities connecting Sanwoe-myeon and Danjang-myeon, providing convenient access and a safe transportation environment for tourists and local residents by linking the tourism and recreation complex.
▶ Gagok Roundabout Installation Project
Gagok Samgeori had frequent traffic accidents and inconvenient pedestrian passage due to its irregular intersection shape. To resolve this, the city is installing a roundabout at Gagok Samgeori with a total project cost of 6.2 billion KRW. Construction began in November last year and is scheduled to open within this year.
▶ Sanggamgyo~Hanshin The Hue Urban Planning Road Construction Project
Due to the development of large apartment complexes in Nae-i-dong and the land readjustment project in Nae-i 3 District, the city is constructing a 1.6 km road between Sanggamgyo and Hanshin The Hue apartments to disperse traffic volume and expand the arterial road network. With a total budget of 24 billion KRW, construction will start in December this year and open in 2025.
▶ Amsaedeul Urban Planning Road Construction Project
Linked with the construction of a connecting bridge between Gagok and Yongpyeong-dong by the Nakdong River Basin Environmental Office, this project aims to establish a smooth road traffic network and promote balanced regional development. It involves expanding the Amsaedeul embankment road by 3.6 km with a total budget of 2.5 billion KRW. Construction began in December last year and is scheduled to open within 2024.
▶ Long-Term Unexecuted Urban Planning Road Construction Project
The city is systematically expanding urban infrastructure by constructing 7.6 km of urban planning roads, including a road behind Samrangjin Elementary School and 14 other projects, with a total budget of 33 billion KRW, focusing on long-term unexecuted urban planning roads in the old downtown area.
▶ Overhead Communication Line Undergrounding Project
This undergrounding project involves burying communication, electricity, and broadcasting lines installed above ground or overhead in densely commercial urban areas underground. It is implemented to create safe pedestrian paths and improve urban aesthetics. The city plans to carry out undergrounding by 2024 over 0.9 km from Miryang Elementary School to Miryang Girls' Middle School in Sammun-dong, 0.5 km from Sammun Administrative Welfare Center to the Health Center, and 0.5 km from Bukseong Roundabout in Naeil-dong to Twosome Place, with a project budget of 9 billion KRW.
