Collision Between Fishing Boats in Night Sea of Geoje Chilcheon-do... 70s Captain Dies

At around 10:12 PM on the 25th, a 60-ton trawl fishing vessel and a 1-ton coastal composite fishing vessel collided near the southwest waters of Seereungseom Island, Chilcheon-do, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam.
According to Changwon Coast Guard on the 26th, the 60-ton fishing vessel A, which departed from Geumgok Port in Geoje at around 7 AM that day, collided with the approaching fishing vessel B while returning to Geumgok Port after finishing operations near Sugura Port at around 7:30 PM.
Immediately after the accident, a crew member on vessel A boarded vessel B and reported to the coast guard after discovering the captain of vessel B unconscious and collapsed on the stern deck.
Upon receiving the report, Changwon Coast Guard dispatched patrol ships, coastal rescue boats, and the Changwon rescue team to the scene, and upon arrival, began rescue operations, checked for additional casualties, and managed the accident.
The captain of vessel B, Mr. C, in his 70s, was transported to the hospital by the 119 ambulance team waiting at Geumgok Port but ultimately passed away.
At the time of the accident, vessel A had 11 people on board, and vessel B had 1 person on board.
The coast guard is currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident by questioning the crew members.

A Changwon Coast Guard official stated, “Collisions between vessels can lead to large-scale casualties such as flooding, capsizing, or sinking,” and added, “Especially late at night, visibility is poor, so it is crucial to carefully monitor the surroundings during fishing or navigation and thoroughly check radar monitors.”
