Naju-si Establishes 'Environmental Management System' Utilizing Drone Technology
Naju City in Jeollanam-do recently signed a business agreement at the city hall's Ihwa Hall with the Jeonnam Information & Culture Industry Promotion Agency (Director Lee In-yong) and three companies participating in the demonstration project, following the second designation of the Drone Special Free Zone.
According to the city on the 26th, the companies participating in the drone technology demonstration are three firms: ‘The Air’, ‘Skyview’, and ‘Woori Io’.

Naju City and each institution will join forces to establish an environmental management system utilizing drone technology, aiming to realize a ‘safe and pleasant advanced science city led by drones’.
As detailed projects, they plan to establish the ‘Yeongsan River Environmental Management System’ through monitoring river waste and inspecting riverside facilities and disaster-prone vulnerable areas, as well as the ‘Bonghwang-myeon Air Quality Management System’ by creating an odor map.
In the Drone Special Free Zone, various regulations such as special airworthiness certification, test flight permits, safety certification, flight approval, and radio compatibility evaluation required for test flights of newly developed drones are exempted or simplified to allow free demonstrations.
This will reduce the drone airframe development and demonstration period by more than five months.
The designated drone special zones in the Naju area, selected through a public contest, include three zones: ‘Yeongsan River Juksanbo to Naju Bridge’ (22.3 km²), ‘Bonghwang-myeon area’ (45 km²), and ‘Najuho’ (15 km²).
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “I am honored to hold a business agreement for technology demonstration following the designation of the Drone Special Free Zone, a core technology of the 4th Industrial Revolution,” and added, “I hope that projects aligned with the government’s policy for drone company growth and drone industry ecosystem creation will be actively discovered.”
