Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station Urges Installation of Vehicle Fire Extinguishers
Gwangju Gwangsan Fire Station announced on the 25th that it urges the installation of fire extinguishers in vehicles for prompt response in case of vehicle fires.
According to the fire department, a total of 159 vehicle fires occurred in the jurisdiction over the past five years (2018?2022), resulting in 1 injury, 2 deaths, and property damage amounting to 718,058,000 KRW.
Vehicle fires mostly occur due to driver negligence (such as neglecting oil leaks, overheating, and dust accumulation), mechanical defects, and electrical faults. Early extinguishing is crucial during a fire, and failure to do so may result in total loss. Therefore, a vehicle fire extinguisher must be installed for rapid initial fire suppression.
According to current law, passenger cars with a seating capacity of 7 or more and light passenger vans must have a vehicle fire extinguisher installed. Starting from December 2024, a law mandating the installation of vehicle fire extinguishers in all vehicles with 5 or more seats will be enforced.
