‘Hoegiro 12ga-gil’ Mural Repair Project Completed… Regular Maintenance of Old Murals Planned
Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced that the mural work in the Hoegiro 12ga-gil area was completed in mid-July. As part of the ‘2023 First Half Mural Maintenance Project,’ old murals along approximately 203 meters of the street were newly replaced.
Annyeong Village in Hoegi-dong brightened dark alleys with colorful murals instead of monotone colors through the 2013 Seoul Crime Prevention Environmental Design project. It is a mural alley designated as a special police patrol zone and a women’s safe return path.
With the recent mural repair project, the old murals were transformed into a charming alley full of pastel-toned plant illustrations and whimsical designs, making it a pleasant street that invites visitors to stop by and take a walk.
The mural alley is composed of two themes. The first section is a flower path where visitors can enjoy yellow daffodils, white plum blossoms, light purple tulips, and red peonies. The second section is a ‘photo zone’ with walking path illustrations, where people can pose holding a pink umbrella or take pictures in front of welcoming face murals. Sitting on the light purple stairs with a daisy flower background and looking down at the wall, visitors can feel like the protagonist of the movie ‘La La Land’ or a member of a jazz band.
Lee Pil-hyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, said, “Walking through the alley filled with bright paintings felt like stepping into a fairy tale,” and added, “We will do our best to create a Dongdaemun-gu where happiness blooms in every small alley.”

Dongdaemun-gu announced that it will select targets for the second half of the mural maintenance project in August to continue creating a pleasant street environment.
