Marine Corps Member Deployed in Yecheon-gun Search Goes Missing After Being Swept Away by Rapid Current
A Marine soldier searching for a missing person in Yecheon-gun, Gyeongbuk, was swept away by a rapid current and went missing on the morning of the 19th.
According to the Gyeongbuk Fire Department, Yecheon-gun, which was declared a special disaster area on the morning of the same day due to heavy rain causing landslides and significant damage, a Marine soldier from the 1st Division was searching the Naeseongcheon area in Hwangji-ri, Homyeong-myeon around 9:10 a.m. when he fell into the river and was swept away by the rapid current.
The soldier, who had been deployed to the search site since the 18th, was searching for the missing person along with fellow soldiers in formation from the morning of the 19th in the Naeseongcheon area of Hwangji-ri, Homyeong-myeon, and Miho-ri, Bomun-myeon, when he fell into the river.
Other soldiers who fell into the water during the search managed to escape the rapid current, but this soldier was swept away about 20 meters and disappeared.
