Busan City Holds 'Budget Policy Council with the Democratic Party of Korea Busan Chapter'
Discussion on Current Issues and Next Year's National Budget Projects Including 2030 Busan World Expo Bid
Mayor Park Hyung-jun Calls for Bipartisan Cooperation for Busan's Development and Citizens' Happiness
On the 14th at 4 p.m., Busan City held a 'Budget Policy Meeting with the Busan City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea' in the video conference room on the 7th floor of Busan City Hall to discuss the resolution of city administration issues such as attracting the 2030 Busan World Expo and the prompt construction of Gadeokdo New Airport, as well as securing next year's national budget.
Busan City plans to build bipartisan cooperation by holding a budget policy meeting with the Busan City Party of the Democratic Party of Korea to resolve Busan's development issues and secure next year's national budget.
At the meeting, key officials including Mayor Park Hyung-jun and the Deputy Mayors for Administration and Economy attended from the city side, while from the Democratic Party of Korea Busan City Party, Chairwoman Seo Eun-sook and lawmakers Park Jae-ho, Choi In-ho, and Jeon Jae-soo participated to actively support efforts to secure the national budget directly related to Busan City's finances for next year.
The major Busan city issues and key national budget projects for next year discussed at the meeting are as follows.
Major Busan city issues include ▲attracting the 2030 Busan World Expo ▲prompt construction of Gadeokdo New Airport ▲rapid promotion of the second phase of Busan Port North Port redevelopment ▲relocation of the Korea Development Bank headquarters to Busan ▲establishment of a safe drinking water supply system in the Nakdong River basin ▲enactment and revision of laws related to urban convergence special zones and opportunity development special zones ▲safe and sustainable urban railway operation (support for legal free rides losses on urban railways, support for replacement of aging urban railway electric cars in Busan) ▲expansion of public medical institutions ▲undergrounding of the Gyeongbu Line railway and expansion of transportation networks ▲construction of the National Natural Heritage Center, among others. These plans are expected to accelerate the promotion of Busan's major vision projects and the resolution of regional issues.
Additionally, key national budget projects for next year include ▲creation and activation of a green data center cluster ▲development and demonstration of new export research reactors ▲support for fostering Glocal University 30 ▲equipment sharing and residency support for marine and fisheries startup companies ▲establishment of an intelligent (smart) aquaculture big data center ▲building a technology support base for export-led future car industry innovation growth ▲development of vegan materials based on bioenergy sources (biomass) and establishment of a demonstration cluster ▲phase 2 of wastewater treatment facilities at Myeongrye General Industrial Complex ▲construction of a water intake tower to prevent algae inflow in the Nakdong River ▲construction of the Busan?Yangsan?Ulsan metropolitan railway, among 23 major projects. The meeting discussed ways to secure national budget funding for these projects.
With budget policy meetings held with both major parties' Busan city parties as of today, the city plans to actively cooperate and coordinate with local lawmakers until the final review and approval of the National Assembly budget bill, putting full effort into reflecting the national budget to usher in the era of a 9 trillion won national budget.
In particular, to gain cooperation and support from the local political sphere, starting with the budget policy meeting with the People Power Party Busan City Party in April and continuing with the budget policy meeting with the opposition Democratic Party of Korea Busan City Party, Mayor Park Hyung-jun's commitment to bipartisan governance without distinction between ruling and opposition parties for Busan's development is clearly demonstrated. Therefore, practical results are expected in resolving Busan City's issues and securing next year's national budget.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, “I will do my best until the end to secure next year's national budget so that Busan City's key projects can proceed without setbacks, and since support from the opposition Democratic Party of Korea Busan City Party is essential, I ask for full cooperation and support.” He also emphasized, “Regarding regional issues, regardless of party lines, I will frequently communicate with the Democratic Party of Korea Busan City Party and Busan lawmakers to work together and resolve them.”
