"Bought 600g of Beef but Only 100g of Sauce"... Consumers Angry at Company Tricks
A vendor listed on 'KakaoTalk Gift' is facing criticism for including 100g of sauce in the 600g weight indicated for a grilled beef set sold to consumers. After the backlash, the vendor belatedly revised the product name.
Recently, a consumer posted on an online community that they received an imported beef set as a gift through 'KakaoTalk Gift'.
The poster, Mr. A, said he received a product named ‘Premium Beef Assorted Grill Set 600g’, but upon delivery, the actual meat weight was 500g, and he shared photos in his product review.
In the photos shared by Mr. A, the meat is labeled as one pack of beef short ribs weighing 200g and one pack of the premium assorted grill set weighing 300g.
Mr. A checked the detailed page on KakaoTalk Gift and found that the meat was 500g and the sauce was 100g, adding, “I feel upset because it seems they sell it like that knowing people don’t look closely before gifting.”
The actual product Mr. A received is sold on KakaoTalk Gift for 32,900 KRW under the name ‘Premium Beef Assorted Grill Set 600g’, with a phrase in parentheses next to the product name stating 'Beef Short Ribs + Buchae Meat + Salchisal + Beef Chuck Eye Roll + Meat Sauce'. While the vendor did include the sauce in the product name, consumers point out that it is not easy to realize the sauce weighs 100g before reading the detailed description.
On the 13th, reviews for the 'Premium Assorted Grill 600g' product on KakaoTalk Gift showed several consumers giving one-star ratings after receiving the product.
Consumers expressed complaints such as, “The 600g label only included 500g of meat; please check. At least mention that 100g of meat sauce is included. Who labels it like this?”, “Am I the only one who thought it was 600g of meat?”, and “They should state that the weight includes sauce.”
Netizens also reacted with comments like “This is consumer deception,” “Who lists sauce weight together with meat weight?”, and “If you don’t check carefully, you get fooled like this.”
