Kia Invests $200 Million in Georgia Plant for EV9 Production
Kia is starting production of the large electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) EV9 at its local factory in the United States.
On the 12th (local time), Kia announced that it will invest $200 million (256.2 billion KRW) in its Georgia plant to promote the production of the 'EV9'.
Kia explained, "With an expansion of more than $200 million, it will be possible to assemble the soon-to-be-released EV9 SUV along with the four models currently assembled at the Georgia plant."
The EV9 is Kia's first electric vehicle assembled in North America, with production targeted for next year.
Once the EV9 is produced, it will become the fifth model manufactured by Kia in the United States. Currently, the Telluride, Sorento, Sportage, and K5 are produced at the Georgia plant.
Kia added that the addition of the fifth model at the Georgia plant could create about 200 additional jobs.
