On the 12th, the foundation announced that 'Ballet with Commentary' will be performed twice at the Mapo Art Center on July 26 and August 2.
The performances are part of the 'Matinee' series held at 11 a.m. on weekdays during summer vacation, with all seats priced at 10,000 KRW to reduce the burden on attendees.
Moon Hoon-sook, director of the Universal Ballet Company, along with Professor Kim Ji-young, a former principal dancer of the National Ballet Company, and dance columnist Hwang Bo-yumi, will guide the audience into the world of ballet.
The Ballet ABCD program on the 26th is designed to explore the basics of ballet and its artistic and historical background, tracing its origins in Italy, theatrical formalization in France, and flourishing in Russia. Audiences can appreciate key scenes from ballet works through videos and dancer demonstrations, learning about dance styles, costumes, emotional expressions, and the evolution of ballet. Ballerinas Kim Ah-hyun, Cha Hae-bin, Kim Do-hee, and Ji Chae-ri will present major scenes from the romantic ballet masterpiece 'Pas de Quatre.'
On August 2, Moon Hoon-sook of the Universal Ballet Company will take the stage to explain the birth and spread of ballet, the history of ballet shoes, and the development of ballet in relation to changes in skirt length. She will also introduce deeper ways to appreciate ballet, such as ballet mime, which makes ballet even more enjoyable once understood.
Additionally, the Universal Ballet Company's Junior Company will demonstrate a day in the life of dancers through class performances. Ballerina Anastasia Demianova, ballet dancers Igor Kontarev and Kim Dong-woo will perform the 'Fairy Doll' trio, while ballerina Hong Hyang-gi and ballet dancer Kang Min-woo will meet the audience with the 'Don Quixote' pas de deux.

Song Je-yong, CEO of the Mapo Cultural Foundation, said, "We have prepared matinee performances that can be enjoyed on weekday mornings during summer vacation. We hope that audiences such as housewives, students, and the elderly, who may find evening times burdensome, will visit the theater with a light heart and have a chance to become more familiar with ballet, which has often seemed difficult."
