The day before, KCC held a safety prayer ceremony to wish for accident-free and disaster-free operations after establishing the EMC production line at the KCC Anseong plant located in Seoun-myeon, Anseong-si, Gyeonggi Province. About 50 people, including KCC Chairman Chung Mong-jin, KCC President Chung Jae-hoon, partner companies, and related personnel, attended the event. A signing ceremony on a semiconductor wafer was also held.
The newly established EMC production line consists of 2 dispersion lines and 3 pressing machines, with an annual production capacity of approximately 2,400 tons. After trial production, full-scale commercial production is planned to begin in August. Adding this to the existing EMC production line capacity of 8,000 tons per year at the Jeonju 2 plant, KCC will secure an annual EMC production capacity of over 10,000 tons. KCC plans to utilize the Anseong plant as a core base for producing high-end organic and inorganic material products by establishing state-of-the-art quality control facilities and systems, and to expand the market through global-level semiconductor material technology.
Recently, as products reflecting advanced semiconductor technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and electric vehicles have increased, the global semiconductor market is expanding. Demand for EMC, which protects semiconductor chips, substrates, and wires from external factors, is also on the rise. Accordingly, the KCC Anseong plant plans to mainly produce high-end EMC products for power semiconductors, memory, and system semiconductors applied to future core industries such as electric vehicle drive components and renewable energy.
EMC is a semiconductor sealing material made based on epoxy resin, a type of thermosetting polymer, and is applied to most semiconductors used in various applications ranging from home appliances such as mobile phones, refrigerators, and TVs to industrial equipment and automobiles. It protects semiconductors from external heat, moisture, and shocks. KCC supplies various products to global memory and power semiconductor companies both domestically and internationally.
