Pohang City will consecutively open five outdoor water play areas in the urban center to help citizens cool off during the midsummer heat.
On the 11th, the children's water play area in Yangdeok Hanmaeum Multipurpose Park and the water play area at Doeumsan Forest Culture Training Center simultaneously opened and will operate until the 30th of next month.
The water play area in Yangdeok-dong Hanmaeum Multipurpose Park was established in August 2017, expanded with additional water play facilities in 2020, and currently features a retention area of 753㎡, a combination play structure, four other water play facilities, shaded benches, restrooms, and showers.
The water play areas are free of charge, but to prevent safety accidents and overcrowding, usage is limited to 100 people in the morning and 100 people in the afternoon on a first-come, first-served basis.
Operating hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the facilities are closed from midnight to 2 a.m. for maintenance. They are also closed every Monday and Thursday for reservoir cleaning and facility maintenance.
The Doeumsan Forest Culture Training Center water play area operates free of charge during the same period from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is equipped with a comprehensive water play area, water buckets, shaded areas, and rest spots, and is closed every Monday and Thursday.
Pohang City completed water quality inspections before opening the forest water play areas to maintain pleasant water quality and plans to conduct biweekly water quality tests along with cleaning and water supply operations.
The Hyeongsan River outdoor water play area will operate from July 15 to August 27, limiting attendance to 600 people each in the morning and afternoon sessions, and will be closed every Monday.
Applications for water play use are managed through an online reservation system on the Pohang City Facilities Management Corporation website. Reservations can be made starting at noon five days before the intended use date. Admission fees are 5,000 KRW for adults and teenagers, 3,000 KRW for children aged 12 and under, and free for infants under one year old.
The Poeun Children's Water Play Area in the Ocheon Sports and Culture Town will be open from July 18 to August 27. Usage is free, and only children aged 13 and under are allowed entry. Children aged five and under must be accompanied by a guardian.
It is closed every Monday and operates in three daily sessions. Group visitors can make reservations through the Pohang City Facilities Management Corporation website on weekdays, while individual visitors can use the facility on a first-come, first-served basis without reservations.
Additionally, from the 19th of this month until the 30th of next month, a children's water play area will be operated free of charge for visitors to the Agricultural Iron Age Culture Theme Park located in Gigye-myeon. It operates twice daily, in the morning and afternoon, and is closed every Monday and Thursday for facility inspection and cleaning.
Daily admission is limited to 200 people (100 per session) and requires reservations. Preschool children must be accompanied by a guardian. Phone reservations can be made starting seven days before the visit date. For more details, please refer to the announcements on the Pohang City Hall website.
