Cho Kuk's Son Voluntarily Returns Master's Degree from Yonsei University Graduate School
Suspicion of Using 'False Internship Confirmation'
Cho Mo, the son of former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk, will voluntarily return his master's degree from Yonsei University Graduate School. Earlier, Cho was suspected of using a false internship certificate for admission to Yonsei University Graduate School.
On the 10th, Cho Kuk's side announced, "After much consideration, Cho Mo has decided to return the master's degree from Yonsei University Graduate School, which has become controversial due to the documents submitted at the time of graduate school admission," and added, "This intention has been notified to Yonsei University Graduate School by certified mail."
Cho Mo, the son of former Minister Cho Kuk, was admitted to the integrated master's and doctoral program in Political Science and Diplomacy at Yonsei University in the first semester of the 2018 academic year. He is suspected of submitting a falsely prepared internship activity certificate during this process. At the time of the application, Cho submitted an internship certificate issued by Choi Kang-wook, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea and a lawyer affiliated with the law firm Cheongmaek.
Choi was convicted in both the first and second trials on charges of obstruction of business for issuing the internship certificate and appealed to the Supreme Court in September last year. The first trial court judged that "Choi and Cho Mo mainly performed work several times in the evening or on holidays, which does not match the certificate."

Meanwhile, Yonsei University, which has the authority to cancel Cho Mo's admission, expressed a cautious stance after the second trial, stating that they would "wait for the Supreme Court's judgment before deciding whether to cancel the admission." Last year, Yonsei University formed the Admission Fairness Management Committee (Fairness Committee) to discuss whether to maintain Cho's degree but did not reach a conclusion.
