Eunpyeong-gu Gusan-dong Library Village Media Education Room Renovation
Designed with comic illustrations inside and outside the Media Education Room... Cartoonist Sogong Participates
‘Sambakja Webtoon Class’ runs until the end of the year... Open to everyone from elementary students to adults
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced that the Media Education Room at the Gusan-dong Library Village, a public library, has been transformed into a classroom infused with comic imagination.
The Media Education Room, located on the first floor of the library, is a small classroom that can accommodate about 20 people. Cartoonist and picture book author Sogong participated in this renovation.
Comic illustrations were drawn inside and outside the Media Education Room, transforming the previously rough space into a cultural space full of comic imagination.
The comic illustrations sensitively depict everyday scenes of children reading books or drawing, set against the backdrop of the library. A display area for works by ‘Webtoon Class’ students and a photo zone have also been created to provide various attractions.
Members of the Gusan-dong Library Village youth comic club ‘Jachidonggap’ also participated in the renovation. They actively contributed to changing the classroom by wearing aprons they decorated themselves. The transformed Media Education Room can be viewed in a video on the Gusan-dong Library Village YouTube account.
Along with the renovation, the Media Education restarted the ‘Sambakja Webtoon Class’ with cartoonist Sogong in April, which had been suspended due to COVID-19. According to library officials, the friendly and stylish comic-themed classroom has received positive responses from students and added vitality to the lectures.
The ‘Sambakja Webtoon Class’ will be held every Sunday until the end of this year, divided into basic webtoon and digital creation classes. Anyone from second grade elementary students to adults can participate by visiting the library or applying by phone.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “In the newly reborn Gusan-dong Library Village, which utilizes an existing building, a space enriched with comic imagination has been created this time,” and added, “We will continue to prepare various programs at the library for students and residents to participate in.”
