On the 7th, the Hwarang Military Merit Medal was Presented to the Family of the Late Private Oh Seok-hwan
Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) announced on the 7th that it presented the Hwarang Military Merit Medal to the bereaved family of the late Private Oh Seok-hwan, a Korean War veteran, at the Eunpyeong-gu Veterans Hall.
The Hwarang Military Merit Medal is the fourth highest among five military merit medals and is awarded to those who have clearly distinguished themselves in combat. The late Private Oh Seok-hwan was recognized for his service while assigned to the 1st Infantry Division during the Korean War.
At the presentation ceremony, Oh Chan-young, the child of the late Private Oh Seok-hwan, received the medal on behalf of the bereaved family.
The Army Headquarters is currently promoting a campaign called “Finding Military Merit Medals from the Korean War” in cooperation with local governments. This campaign locates those who were selected as recipients of military merit medals during the Korean War but did not receive them due to the chaotic circumstances at the time, and delivers the medals to them.
Oh Chan-young, a bereaved family member, said, “It is a great honor to receive this medal on behalf of my parent who dedicated themselves during the Korean War,” and added, “I also express my deep gratitude to Eunpyeong-gu and all related parties for organizing this honorable occasion.”
