Gominjeong: "Choo Mi-ae Will Pass on Her Know-How of Gwangjin District"
Former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae is expected to return to Seoul Gwangjin District B, where she served five terms, in next year's general election. Meanwhile, Ko Min-jung, a member of the Democratic Party currently representing Gwangjin B, expressed confidence, saying, "(Former Minister Choo) will pass on the know-how she has honed in the region for decades to me."
On the 7th, in response to a question from the host on YTN's 'News King Park Ji-hoon' about the possibility of former Minister Choo returning to Gwangjin B, Ko said, "So far, such movements have not actually been detected in the region."
Former Minister Choo is the first female lawmaker in constitutional history to achieve five terms, all elected from Seoul Gwangjin B. Recently, as she targeted former President Moon Jae-in and former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yon, there has been speculation that she might return to Gwangjin B in next year's general election.
However, Ko dismissed the prospect, saying, "The Minister knows better than anyone how difficult this region is," adding, "It is a region that was hard-fought and defended against Oh Se-hoon (Mayor of Seoul), and with rising housing prices and many large apartments being built, it has become a much more challenging area than in the past."
She said, "Even within the ruling party, there are ongoing talks about strategic nominations for Gwangjin B," adding, "Because she is aware of this situation, I rather think she will pass on the know-how she has honed in the region for decades to me."
When asked by the host if that meant she would help without running for the seat herself, Ko replied, "So far, no movements have been detected, and since she knows better than anyone how difficult the region is, that is what I think, but I don't know," adding, "Nevertheless, if she decides to run, I have no way to stop her."
Regarding former Minister Choo's revelations, Ko said, "It is somewhat unsettling," adding, "In fact, I stayed up all night, but because of the Fukushima contaminated water discharge, we do not even have the time to respond to everything former Minister Choo is saying."
She continued, "We have to stop the Fukushima discharge, public broadcasting is being severely damaged right now, which also needs to be stopped, and the cartel over interests in Yangpyeong must be stopped as well. So, even if I had ten bodies, it would not be enough; we need every hand we can get. In such circumstances, these remarks keep coming out, so honestly, it is quite exhausting and difficult, and I would ask for restraint."
