LGU+ and Soongsil University Launch Full-Scale Information Security Talent Development
LG Uplus and Soongsil University announced on the 4th that they have finalized the early admission screening process for the newly established "Department of Information Security," a contract department linked to employment, and will begin accepting applications from September in accordance with the college early admission schedule. They will also select candidates through a special admission track for those who have won awards in information security-related competitions.
The establishment of the Department of Information Security for talent cultivation is part of LG Uplus's "Cyber Safety Innovation Plan" announced on February 16 to strengthen personal information protection and information security. The plan aims to contribute to the national-level training of security professionals and to enhance the company's own information security capabilities by hiring the trained experts. This aligns with the practical innovation talent cultivation project linked to university curricula announced by the Personal Information Protection Commission in March.
LG Uplus and Soongsil University have finalized the basic curriculum of the Department of Information Security to include system security, network security, and artificial intelligence security. They also plan to provide practical specialized education by developing various extracurricular programs such as international hacking competitions, industry-academia projects, and expert mentoring.
The early admission quota for the Department of Information Security in the 2024 academic year is a total of 12 students. This means that more than half of the 20 new students next year will be selected through early admission. The early admission screening is divided into two types: the "SSU Future Talent Track," which is a comprehensive student record type, and the "Information Security Special Talent Track," which is based on skills and achievements.
In particular, the Information Security Special Talent Track is open to anyone who is expected to graduate from high school in February 2024 or graduated in February 2023 and has won awards in information security-related competitions. Competitions recognized by Soongsil University include the Information Security Talent Education Center Information Security Competition, Cyber Attack Defense Competition (CCE), White Hat Contest (WHITECON), Security Enhancement Mock Hacking Competition (WACON), and Codegate, among others, and there is no minimum CSAT score requirement. The purpose is to actively support attracting talents with basic capabilities and potential to further develop their outstanding skills.
Applications can be submitted online through the admissions office website from 10 a.m. on September 12 to 6 p.m. on September 15. More detailed information can be found on the Soongsil University admissions office website.
Lee Jeong-hyun, head of the Department of Information Security at Soongsil University’s College of IT, said, “Our department aims to thoroughly cultivate industry-oriented information security professionals,” adding, “We will nurture practical talents with problem-solving skills based on industry demand, convergence talents with expertise and integrative thinking, and global talents equipped with global capabilities and fundamental qualities.”
