Gokseong-gun Selected as Site for Jeollanam-do Youth Public Rental Housing Construction

Total Project Cost of 20 Billion Won Invested Over 3 Years

Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced on the 30th that it was finally selected as the site for the ‘2024 Jeollanam-do Youth Public Rental Housing Construction Project’ on the 29th.

With this project selection, Gokseong-gun secured 9 billion KRW in provincial funds.

In the Hakjeong-ri area of Gokseong-eup, the project site, a total project cost of 20 billion KRW will be invested over three years from 2024 to 2026, including 9 billion KRW from the regional (provincial) account of the Local Extinction Response Fund, 6 billion KRW from the basic (county) account, and 5 billion KRW from self-funding.

The Youth Public Rental Housing Construction Project is a project announced by Jeollanam-do to promote youth settlement by improving residential conditions and thereby revitalizing the local community. After the first document screening and the second on-site evaluation, Gokseong-gun was finally selected.

The main content of this project plans to build three apartment buildings with a total of 100 units available for occupancy, along with a community center and walking trails. Additionally, it aims to establish youth-tailored living infrastructure by distinguishing 60 studio-type units for single-person youth households and 40 units for newlywed couples.

Due to the continuous outflow of youth population to nearby large cities such as Gwangju, Gokseong-gun’s total fertility rate is only 0.55. In this situation, improving housing infrastructure to attract and settle youth has emerged as an essential task for Gokseong-gun.

Governor Lee Sang-cheol of Gokseong-gun said, “The Youth Public Rental Housing Construction Project is expected to secure housing stability for young people and contribute to revitalizing the local economy. We will do our best to achieve a living population of 3 million and respond to local extinction.”
