KCSC to Conduct Focused Monitoring of Illegal Online Gambling in July
The Korea Communications Standards Commission announced on the 30th that it will conduct focused monitoring of illegal online gambling information throughout July.
This focused monitoring will target illegal online gambling information such as ▲illegal winner voting tickets ▲lottery issuance ▲gambling game operations ▲foreign exchange prediction gambling.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the online environment has rapidly changed, leading to the intelligent and organized spread of illegal online gambling. Consequently, the number of online gambling addicts is also increasing. In the first half of this year, the Korea Communications Standards Commission discussed ways to strengthen cooperation with related organizations such as the Integrated Supervision Commission for the Gambling Industry and the Korea Racing Authority through meetings. Using the online review linkage system, a total of 27,122 cases of illegal gambling information were requested for correction by May.

Using illegal gambling sites is punishable under current law. The Commission also warned that there is a risk of secondary damage to users, such as hacking, personal information leakage, and threats, requiring special caution. Furthermore, it stated that it will continue to enhance efficiency through focused monitoring and cooperation with related organizations and actively respond to suppress the distribution of illegal gambling information and prevent the spread of damage.
