Gukim Jeju Provincial Party Issues Invitation Letter for Nuclear Power Expert Lecture to Congressman Wi Seongon
The People Power Party Jeju Provincial Party proposed to Democratic Party lawmaker Wi Seong-gon (Seogwipo City) to join an invited lecture by an in-party nuclear energy expert.
On the 28th, the People Power Party Jeju Provincial Party issued a statement pointing out the remarks made by lawmaker Wi Seong-gon regarding the discharge of contaminated water from Fukushima, Japan, during a discussion on a current affairs program on a cable TV channel on the 26th.
At that time, when People Power Party lawmaker Seong Il-jong pointed out the mad cow disease rumors about U.S. beef, lawmaker Wi said, "Have you called it mad cow disease rumors until now without knowing that? It amounts to hundreds of thousands."
In response, the People Power Party Jeju Provincial Party criticized, "Exaggerating the number of human mad cow disease patients, which is 232, to hundreds of thousands and insisting that there is related data is, in today's words, cringeworthy," adding, "It has embarrassed the residents of Jeju and Seogwipo constituencies."
They continued, "They are using the discharge of nuclear power plant water, which was decided by the previous government and then neglected, as an election issue."
Meanwhile, the People Power Party Jeju Provincial Party urged, "Please focus your legislative activities on discussing facts in the realm of science and knowledge and on establishing countermeasures for the decline in seafood consumption due to anxiety and the damage to related industries."
They also added, "On the 29th, we plan to invite Professor Jeong Yong-hoon of KAIST, a nuclear expert, to approach the issue scientifically," and "If lawmaker Wi attends, it will be an opportunity for bipartisan cooperation to alleviate the residents' anxiety."
