Navy and Marine Corps Participate in Talisman Saber Exercise
Multinational Coalition Operations to Be Conducted in Australia Starting Next Month on the 22nd
The Navy and Marine Corps will participate in the multinational joint exercise 'Talisman Saber.'
According to the Navy on the 28th, Talisman Saber, jointly hosted by the United States and Australia, will be held from July 22 to August 4 in the northeastern region of Australia, with the purpose of enhancing the joint operational capabilities among participating forces and strengthening exchange and cooperation.
This year, more than 20 warships, about 60 aircraft, and approximately 30,000 troops from 15 countries including Korea, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, India, Indonesia, and Japan will participate, conducting forced entry operations, air defense warfare, anti-submarine and anti-ship warfare, and maritime maneuver exercises.
Korea has conducted the exercise biennially since 2005, with the Wang Geon-class destroyer participating for the first time in 2021. This year, major naval and marine forces including the large transport ship Marado, the destroyer Munmu the Great, the Marineon amphibious assault helicopter, K9 self-propelled howitzers, Cheonmu multiple rocket launchers, and the Korean Amphibious Assault Vehicle (KAAV), along with about 720 personnel, will participate.
Notably, a battalion-level force from the Marine Corps will participate for the first time, conducting landing exercises on the northern coast of Australia, and live-fire training with the Marine Corps' K9 self-propelled howitzers and Cheonmu multiple rocket launchers is also planned.
