'Geum Tae-seop New Party' Begins Formation Preparations with Gwangju Debate
On the 27th, it was announced that the new party 'Seongchal and Moseok,' led by former lawmaker Geum Tae-seop, will begin its full-scale party formation activities starting with a debate in Gwangju next month.
Seongchal and Moseok stated that on the 4th of next month, they will hold a discussion in Gwangju together with the 'Gwangju-Jeonnam People's Assembly Preparing for Citizen Participation Politics' and the 'Gwangju Citizens' Assembly' on how to create new politics in Honam.
The co-hosting organization, 'Gwangju Citizens' Assembly,' is a civic group that has taken the lead on major development issues in Gwangju, such as attracting a complex shopping mall and installing a cable car on Mudeungsan Mountain. The 'Gwangju-Jeonnam People's Assembly Preparing for Citizen Participation Politics' is a group formed last June by about 100 Gwangju citizens, holding monthly debates and lectures aimed at political change in Gwangju and Honam.

Seongchal and Moseok stated, "Former lawmaker Geum plans to explain why a new party is needed now, and Bae Hun-cheon, the representative of the Gwangju Citizens' Assembly, will analyze the reasons for the underdevelopment of Honam politics and propose alternatives." Representative Bae is also known for his speech at the 'Manmin Debate' criticizing the Moon Jae-in administration's income-led growth policy.
