Ahn Cheol-soo: "Many Concerns from Bundang High School Seniors' Parents... Efforts Needed for Reassurance"
President Yoon's 'Suneung Remarks' Criticized
"If Applied to Students with 2-3 Years Left..."
Ahn Cheol-soo, a member of the People Power Party, criticized the government's policy to exclude 'killer questions' from the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), saying, "There is a lot of concern among high school seniors and their parents," and "The government must recognize that the anxiety has reached its peak."
Ahn, whose constituency is Bundang-gu Gap, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, said in an interview with YTN Radio's 'News King Park Ji-hoon' on the 22nd, "There are many inquiries from parents of high school seniors to our local office asking what they should do."
Ahn said, "High school seniors have been preparing according to the current system for the past few years," and added, "The government has said it will announce measures in the future, but especially for students who are only five months away from the CSAT, it is necessary to carefully establish measures to reassure them."
Regarding the government and ruling party's stance that the policy to exclude killer questions is not sudden but a reaffirmation of President Yoon Seok-youl's directive since March, Ahn pointed out again, "But in politics, the people come first," and said, "It is important to solve the problem after gaining public awareness and sympathy. There are not many issues in society that can be solved with a single stroke."
He continued, "Rather than applying it immediately to high school seniors who have only five months left, wouldn't it have been better to apply it to examinees who have two to three years left, thereby reducing confusion and giving them time to adapt?" expressing regret.
Regarding the government's emphasis on reforming the private education cartel, he said, "The private education cartel is a very important target that we need to change, but the bigger goal is the normalization of public education," emphasizing, "that should be the focus."
He added, "If the government tries to directly control the market, problems will inevitably arise in unimaginable ways. It's the balloon effect," and said, "Reforms should not stop at one attempt but proceed continuously while closely monitoring market trends."

On the declaration by Kim Ki-hyun, the party leader, to take charge of the general election next year, Ahn said, "How can anyone know the future?" and added, "Although we have held several general elections so far, various changes may occur in both major parties depending on the atmosphere around the end of this year and the party's approval ratings. That is something no one knows."
