Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su) announced that Mapo Central Library is operating five customized reading and cultural programs to support reading activities tailored to different ages and life stages, including childhood and middle to older adulthood.

Programs for children include ‘Our and the World’s Traditional Etiquette Class,’ ‘Children Reading Picture Books, Meeting with Authors,’ and ‘Majungdo Children Booktuber.’

‘Our and the World’s Traditional Etiquette Class,’ supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is held every Wednesday until July 5, led by instructor Lee Young-ran from the Korea Etiquette Culture Institute. This program teaches traditional etiquette from Korea and various countries around the world to enhance mutual cultural understanding.

‘Children Reading Picture Books, Meeting with Authors’ is planned in conjunction with the original artwork exhibition in the children’s section. Starting with picture book author Lee Deok-hwa on the 21st at 4 p.m. in the Nurimaru of the children’s section, lectures by authors Han Yeon-jin in September, Choi Young-ah in October, and Kim Su-wan and Kim Su-bin in November are scheduled sequentially.

‘Majungdo Children Booktuber,’ a program where children create book introduction videos as content, will be held a total of 10 times from the 23rd to November 3 in the children’s section meeting room, led by instructor Choi Mi-jung, CEO of Book & Media Education Research Institute.

Additionally, there are humanities programs for middle-aged and older adults such as the ‘Tuesday Poetry (Mishi) Gathering’ and lectures for youth and adults titled ‘Classical Literature, Searching for the Origins of Stories.’

The ‘Tuesday Poetry (Mishi) Gathering,’ held every Tuesday until August 1, is part of lifelong education programs aimed at cultivating humanities literacy among middle-aged and older adults. Led by poet Kim Kyung-hoo, participants explore the world of contemporary poets’ poetry and engage in writing and peer reviewing poems themselves.

From July 28 to August 30, a total of four sessions of the evening lecture ‘Classical Literature, Searching for the Origins of Stories’ will be held in collaboration with the local theater group ‘Sanwoollim.’ This lecture introduces the backgrounds of works scheduled to be performed at the Sanwoollim Classical Theater, exploring archetypal stories in classical literature such as the folktale ‘Baby General,’ the French fairy tale ‘The Blue Bird,’ Aesop’s fables, and Greek mythology.

The district plans to conduct satisfaction surveys after the programs and reflect the results in next year’s reading program lineup.
