Kim Juhyung "6-under par in 9 holes"..."Ties record for lowest score"
US Open 3R Front Nine with 6 Birdies in a Row
Lancaster, Singh, Oosthuizen Score '29'
‘PGA star attraction’ Kim Joo-hyung tied the record for the lowest score over 9 holes at the third major tournament of the 2022/2023 PGA Tour season, the US Open (total prize money $20 million).
On the 17th (local time), Kim Joo-hyung shot 6-under-par 29 without a single bogey and with 6 birdies over 9 holes during the third round at the North Course of Los Angeles Country Club in California (par 70, 7,423 yards). He tied the 9-hole lowest score record for the fifth time in the 123-year history of the US Open. Neil Lancaster (USA) in 1995 and 1996, Vijay Singh (Fiji) in 2003, and Louis Oosthuizen (South Africa) in 2015 had previously shot 29.

After reducing one stroke again on the 6th hole (par 4), he added consecutive birdies on the 8th and 9th holes, becoming the record holder for the lowest 9-hole score. He also made a birdie on the 10th hole (par 4), placing his name at the top of the leaderboard, but unfortunately, he made three bogeys on the 13th, 15th, and 16th holes. Kim shot 4-under-par 66 that day, recording a total of 3-under-par 207. Depending on the final day’s results, he is in a position to enter the ‘top 10’.
Kim Joo-hyung is a ‘rising star’ on the PGA Tour. Last August, he became the youngest player to win twice on the PGA Tour (at 20 years and 3 months old) by winning the Wyndham Championship and the Shriners Children’s Open in October. With his fluent English skills and energetic play, he is attracting attention in the global golf world. He signed a contract with Nike, which sponsors golf legends Tiger Woods (USA) and Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), drawing a spotlight on him.
