Restaurant Burglary and Safe Robbery by 'Three-time Theft Offender' Sentenced to Prison in First Trial
A man in his 40s who broke into a restaurant through a window and stole cash from the counter safe was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
According to the legal community on the 18th, the Seoul Western District Court sentenced Mr. A (41, male), who was tried on theft charges, to 1 year and 6 months in prison on the 31st of last month. Mr. A had previously served three prison sentences for theft between 2012 and 2018 and was released on May 16, 2020.
The court stated, "Mr. A began committing theft crimes in his mid-teens and has a history of serving multiple prison sentences for similar theft offenses. Despite being within the recidivism period of his final sentence, he committed another crime using a similar method." However, the court explained the sentencing reasoning by noting, "Mr. A showed an attitude of remorse, the amount of damage was relatively small, and the victim does not wish to press charges."
