MFDS Joint Inspection of Medical Institutions and Pharmacies to Prevent Misuse and Abuse of Medical Narcotics
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 16th that it will conduct a joint inspection of 29 medical institutions and pharmacies from the 19th to the 22nd, together with the National Police Agency and local governments, to prevent the misuse of medical narcotics and strengthen supervision over appropriate prescription and use.
The inspection targets were selected by the MFDS's 'Narcotics Misuse Monitoring Team' through analysis of big data from the Narcotics Integrated Management System. The inspection will check for cases of death or prescriptions/use under another person's name, and medical institutions and pharmacies that filled prescriptions at multiple pharmacies using a single prescription.
Meanwhile, the MFDS's 'Narcotics Misuse Monitoring Team' has been conducting focused inspections of 21 medical institutions since the 12th, together with local governments, regarding self-prescription and self-administration by medical staff.

If any suspected violations of the Narcotics Control Act are identified during the inspection, the 'Narcotics Misuse Validity Review Committee' will collect expert opinions on medical validity and patient necessity, and take measures such as requesting investigations.
