Dr. Lee Si-hyung (Director of the Serotonin Culture Center) said on the 15th about the launch of the Harumanhacheon National Movement Headquarters for walking 10,000 steps a day, "The easiest way to secrete serotonin, known as the 'happiness hormone,' is walking," and added, "Since Korea suffers from serotonin deficiency disorder, I am very pleased to see such an exercise being promoted."

View original imageDr. Lee conveyed these remarks in a congratulatory speech at the launch ceremony of the Harumanhacheon National Movement Headquarters held in the morning at Namsangol Hanok Village, Jung-gu, Seoul, hosted by Asia Economy. Dr. Lee is recognized as an authority in domestic psychiatry and a pioneer in popularizing brain science. In 2009, he established the Serotonin Culture Center and has been advocating the importance of 'serotonin,' a neurotransmitter in the brain known to induce happiness and reduce depression and anxiety.
Dr. Lee emphasized, "The biggest problem in Korea is suffering from serotonin deficiency disorder," and explained, "Serotonin is a hormone that regulates intense, violent, and negative emotions and is also nicknamed the 'happiness hormone.'"
He continued, "The way to secrete serotonin is simple," and mentioned, "The most distinct way serotonin is secreted is by walking," suggesting that happiness can be found through walking. He also pointed out that walking can improve human relationships. Dr. Lee advised, "There are hardly any people who fight while walking," and added, "When you need to resolve misunderstandings with friends, walking naturally secretes serotonin, leading to a wonderful reconciliation."

Finally, Dr. Lee said, "It is not necessary to walk exactly 10,000 steps," and expressed his determination, "Due to COVID-19, I was unable to walk much for about three years, but now I will try harder to walk again."
