Hyundai Rotem Unveils First Full-Scale Hydrogen Electric Tram in Busan... Presents Future Vision
Participation in the Largest Domestic Railroad Exhibition
Hyundai Rotem will participate in the 2023 Busan International Railway Technology Industry Exhibition held at BEXCO in Busan from the 14th to the 17th, showcasing the future paradigm of railroads.
Under the theme ‘H-Flow,’ which encompasses the past, present, and future trends, Hyundai Rotem has prepared its largest-ever exhibition hall measuring 3,708㎡ (approximately 1,122 pyeong). H-Flow is a keyword representing a grand flow that penetrates Hyundai Rotem’s history, focusing on people-centered railway vehicles and technology, as well as the eco-friendly hydrogen (H2) vision.
At the entrance of the exhibition hall, the actual EMU-320 distributed power high-speed train, developed with domestic technology, is displayed alongside a Korean high-speed rail history museum. Visitors can experience the 20-year history of high-speed train development since the opening of the Gyeongbu High-Speed Railway in 2004 at the history museum.
Additionally, a hydrogen mobility technology exhibition zone has been set up, centered on the hydrogen electric tram, which is being unveiled in physical form for the first time. The hydrogen electric tram, a national project led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy currently undergoing demonstration, is a next-generation eco-friendly transportation means scheduled for completion by the end of this year. It features the ability to purify approximately 800μg (micrograms) of fine dust per hour of operation and generate 107.6kg of clean air.
In particular, the hydrogen electric tram is expected to contribute to sustainable urban environmental improvement as the carbon-neutral era, with rapidly increasing demand for eco-friendly energy, fully opens. Last month, it was recognized for its excellence by winning the main prize at the German ‘2023 iF Design Award,’ one of the world’s top three design awards, marking the first time for the domestic railway industry.
Furthermore, Hyundai Rotem will showcase the latest railway vehicles that demonstrate competitiveness in domestic and international markets, including the metropolitan area express railway (GTX-A) train, Sydney double-decker trains in Australia, Taiwan Railway Administration commuter trains, and Warsaw trams in Poland.
