Chungnam Province Conducts Special Inspection on Seafood Companies' 'Origin Labeling'
Chungnam Province announced on the 14th that it will conduct a special inspection of origin labeling targeting 1,216 imported seafood companies within the province until the end of this month.
The special inspection is being carried out to focus on cracking down on violations of origin labeling in response to the increased public interest and concern over seafood safety following the decision to discharge contaminated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
Chungnam Province plans to strengthen the inspection system by establishing a cooperative framework with city and county governments as well as the Janghang and Pyeongtaek branches of the National Fishery Products Quality Management Service.
The main inspection targets are imported seafood with high consumption, such as live red sea bream, live scallops, and live sea squirts (meongge).
