The private diplomatic organization Asia Society Korea was established by Chairman Shin in October 2007. Since its official launch in April 2008, Chairman Shin has served as its chairman, working to enhance understanding of Asia and expand cultural and diplomatic exchanges based on close cooperation with various embassies.
Asia Society Korea has focused on issues and current affairs spanning politics, economy, security, society, and culture with experts from various fields under the themes of international relations and the future of the Korean Peninsula. As part of this, on the morning of the 13th, Chairman Shin and the ambassadors residing in Korea will visit the Naval Operations Command to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War armistice and participate in a maritime memorial service and wreath-laying ceremony honoring fallen soldiers. Attendees will board the Hansando, the Republic of Korea Navy’s first dedicated training ship, to observe a moment of silence and lay wreaths for the fallen soldiers.
Afterwards, they will visit Busan Port North Port, the Expo candidate site. Busan Port North Port has been integral to Busan’s development for 147 years and is undergoing an eco-friendly redevelopment project through urban regeneration. It is equipped with a three-dimensional transportation network that utilizes both inland and maritime advantages, making it an optimal location for hosting the Expo. Chairman Shin will tour the Expo promotional center and candidate site with Cho Yoo-jang, head of the 2030 Expo Promotion Headquarters, appealing to the ambassadors from 30 countries about Busan’s charm and its capability to host the Expo. A luncheon hosted by Lee Sung-kwon, Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs, will also take place.
