109 Drivers Caught Drinking and Driving in Broad Daylight in School Zones in Chungnam
On the 12th, the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency announced that from April 14 to May 31, 15 police stations conducted a daytime drunk driving crackdown at 441 locations, including school zones in their jurisdictions, and caught 109 drunk drivers.
The crackdown was implemented nationwide following a fatal accident involving an elementary school student in a Daejeon school zone caused by daytime drunk driving.
During the crackdown period, the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency also detected 152 violations of laws, including 35 cases of signal violations and 8 cases of pedestrian protection violations in school zones.
However, according to police statistics, compared to 110 drunk driving accidents that occurred from April 14 to May 31 last year, this year saw 75 cases, a decrease of 35, and daytime drunk driving accidents decreased by 2, from 22 to 20.
The Chungnam Provincial Police Agency plans to continue special crackdowns on drunk driving day and night to prevent drunk driving accidents during the summer vacation season.

A representative of the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency said, “In line with the summer vacation season, we plan to strengthen drunk driving crackdowns regardless of day or night, focusing on tourist spots, busy areas, and school zones.”
